First time in Cluj? then you might need some advice on how to get around…
www.cluj.com, www.partytude.ro, www.evenimenteincluj.ro – check out the events of the day (concerts, parties, exibitions)
Grocery stores: the closest are on Eroilor 48, Universitatii 3, and a Billa supermarket on Ferdinand street, just at a few minutes walk.
there is a lively fruit and vegetable indoor market in Piata Mihai Viteazul, open till evening… try it out, it can be a nice experience
Restaurants and cafes: the best ones in town are practically at your doorstep.
First of all, we invite you to our own MINT BISTRO, one of the best in Cluj we say :), with a simple, yet delicious cuisine (11, Gheorghe Sincai str.)
say you are staying in Cluj Apartments and get 10% discount on the final bill. Reservations at: +40 746 213 394
other places we like: Baracca, Bujole, Olivo (good coffees), Nuka, Camino.
for Romanian food: Zama, Varzarie – try the typical “varza a la Cluj”
If you want to go to the movies, there are 2 cinemas in the city center: Florin Piersic (in Piata Mihai Viteazul), and Victoria (on Eroilor street).
Or you can head to Iulius Mall or Polus Center (the two commercial centers in Cluj)
The National Theater of Cluj and the Opera House share the same building (in Piata Avram Iancu); performances almost every day (tickets are really affordable)
you can see the program and buy tickets online here: http://www.teatrulnationalcluj.ro/program/ http://www.operacluj.ro/program.html
Shopping: Iulius mall and Polus center, two big commercial centers
saturday mornings, there is a huge, lively flea market, called “Oser” – take a taxi to get you there. After treasure hunting, eat some “mici” – traditional romanian sausages
What to see in cluj:
-a cultural tour: the Art Museum (Unirii square) has a wonderful collection of modern Romanian art, and some temporary exibitions; the Paintbrush Factory – a contemporary art space hosting various exibitions; St. Michael cathedral (climb the stairs of its tower, if open, for amazing views); walk along the fortified wall on the paved, narrow streets, have a look at Bastionul Croitorilor (Tailors’ Tour) and enjoy the medieval atmosphere
-a day in nature: Cluj Botanical Garden is probably the best in the country; walk around traditional houses from different regions in Romania at the Village Museum; enjoy the wonderful view of the city from the Citadel (Cetatuie); walk around the Central Park
